The 45th Virudhunagar P.S.M. Mariappa Nadar Rotating Trophy, a state-level volleyball tournament, was hosted by T.S.M. Manickam Nadar - Janaki Ammal School, Virudhunagar from 14th to 17th July 2026.
Students of Vattraiyiruppu Hindu Higher Secondary School, Watrap secured the Runner-up position, bringing pride and honour to the school at the state level.
To mark the birthday of the Chairman of SRM Valliammai Engineering College and SRM Educational Institutions, an All-India level Ball Badminton tournament for school students was held over the weekend Saturday and Sunday (11.07.2026 & 12.07.2026) at the SRM campus in Kattankulathur, Chennai. Thirty-six schools from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka participated in the event.
The team from our Hindu Higher Secondary School, Watrap secured third place, winning a trophy, certificates, and bronze medals. The victorious students were congratulated by School Secretary Mr. S. Sudagar, School President Ms. R. Janaki, committee members, the Headmaster, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff.
Named the tournament's Best Front Player - attacking play instrumental in the All India victory.
Awarded Best Back Player - solid defensive and strategic play anchored the team throughout.
Teams from Tamil Nadu and other states — 36 in total — competed across two days at SRM Valliammai Engineering College, Chennai. Our school's Ball Badminton team emerged champions, winning the prestigious Chairman's Birthday Trophy along with gold medals and certificates for each player.
The success was made possible by the support of the Hindu High School and Chattram Committee — Chairman, Secretary, and Committee Members — along with the school's Headmaster, teaching staff, and office team.
The 41st Bharathiyar Dina State Level Group Sports Tournament (Under 19) was conducted by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department, with Ball Badminton teams from all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu competing.
Watrap Hindu Higher Secondary School's team won 2nd place, receiving the runners-up trophy, silver medals, and merit certificates — a proud achievement at the state level representing Virudhunagar District.
The school's Under-17 Boys Ball Badminton team clinched the State Level First Place in 2019–20, winning gold medals and certificates. The team photo, taken in front of the school's administrative block, marks this proud milestone in the school's sporting history.
Hindu Higher Secondary School, Watrap proudly hosted the Virudhunagar District Inter-School Volleyball Championship for Boys in 2018, in association with the Virudhunagar District Volleyball Association. The event was inaugurated with the presence of senior dignitaries and school committee members, reflecting the school's commitment to nurturing sports alongside academics.
The school's Under-17 Boys Kabaddi team secured the Runners-up position at the Virudhunagar District Inter-School Kabaddi Tournament 2025–26, held at Aruppukottai.
The team displayed exceptional strength, coordination, and fighting spirit throughout the tournament, earning silver medals and merit certificates — a proud achievement representing Watrap at the district level.
Sri S. Sankaranarayanan, B.A., B.T., Headmaster of The Hindu High School, Watrap, received the State Award for 1970–71 from His Excellency K.K. Shah, Governor of Tamil Nadu, on 18th February 1973 — the first ever State recognition received by HHSS, honouring over nine decades of educational service since 1878.
